Day Trips from Paris Map: Every Stop on One Map

This day trips from Paris map puts every destination on the site in one view, grouped by direction from the city. Each pin shows how you get there, how long the trip takes and whether a bookable tour reaches it. Use it to see what sits close to Paris and what costs a very long day. The interactive map sits just below the quick answer. For a ranked shortlist instead of geography, see day trips from Paris and the day tours from Paris comparison pages.

Quick answer How the map works

Chantilly is the quickest stop on the map at 25 minutes from Gare du Nord, Versailles follows at 30 to 35 minutes by RER C, and everything else fans out from there. Reims sits 45 minutes away by TGV, Provins 1 hour 23 minutes by line P, and Mont-Saint-Michel and Bruges take most of a day. Every pin on the map lists its transport, season notes and tours.

North and West of Paris: Versailles to Normandy

This arc runs from the palace just outside the ring road to the Normandy coast. Trains leave from Saint-Lazare, Montparnasse, Gare du Nord and the RER lines.

Versailles and Saint-Germain-en-Laye

Versailles is the anchor pin. RER C from Champ de Mars, Saint-Michel Notre-Dame or Musée d'Orsay takes 30 to 35 minutes to Versailles Château Rive Gauche, then it is a 10-minute walk to the Palace. The €2.55 Métro-Train-RER ticket covers the ride. Several tours reach the pin, from the palace and gardens train tour at $100.80 with a 3-hour guided visit, to the bike tour with palace entry at $125 and the small-group minibus tour at $192.31. There is also the combined Giverny and Versailles day trip. The Palace is closed Mondays and every visitor books a time slot.

Saint-Germain-en-Laye is the quiet neighbour at the end of RER A. The château is 3 minutes on foot from the station and holds the Musée d'Archéologie nationale, general admission €6, closed Tuesdays. The estate grounds are open daily. No tour goes there, go by train, and it fits in half a day.

Giverny and Auvers-sur-Oise

Giverny sits northwest, Monet's house and water lily garden above the Seine. The train from Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny takes about 50 minutes, then the Navette Giverny bus costs €5 single or €10 return, or the little tourist train €10 adult return for the 5 km ride. The gardens open 1 April to 1 November only, 10:00 to 18:00. Several tours cover the pin: the half-day Giverny trip at $78 with entry included, the Versailles combo, and the Monet and Van Gogh small-group day at $252.28 that adds Auvers-sur-Oise.

Auvers-sur-Oise is where Van Gogh spent his last weeks. Line H runs from Gare du Nord via Valmondois, and on weekends from spring to autumn a direct train leaves Gare du Nord at 9:38 and reaches Auvers at 10:24. The château is closed Mondays and its gardens are free. No dedicated tour reaches Auvers alone, go by train or on the combined Giverny tour.

Chantilly, Rouen and the Normandy Coast

Chantilly is 25 minutes from Gare du Nord by mainline train. The 1-day domaine ticket covers the château, grounds and Great Stables, and a Pack TER adds a return train. No tour here, go by train.

Rouen takes about 1 hour 30 minutes from Saint-Lazare, and the station is a 10-minute walk from the centre. The cathedral is free, the Gros Horloge clock costs €7.85. No tour here, go by train, the Paris to Normandy rail guide has the detail. Honfleur has no station, so you continue by Nomad bus from Le Havre or Caen, or take a seasonal Paris to Deauville train. Étretat is reached by Nomad bus from Le Havre or by a combined train and coach ticket from April to early November. Bayeux, the base town for the D-Day sites, is served by mainline train from Saint-Lazare. Its Tapestry museum is closed for a long renovation, and the tapestry travels to the British Museum from autumn 2026, but two museums stay open with a combined pass at €14. No tour pin covers Bayeux alone.

East of Paris: Champagne, Provins and Disneyland

Trains east leave from Gare de l'Est and Gare du Nord, and RER A runs to Disneyland. This side mixes a medieval town, wine country and theme parks.

Provins and Disneyland

Provins is the easiest medieval fix on the map. The direct line P train from Paris Est takes about 1 hour 23 minutes and the same €2.55 Métro-Train-RER ticket covers it. The Tour César keep costs €5 for adults and the Pass Provins starts at €9.50. One warning from the map season note: line P has no weekend service from 26 September to 1 November, with buses replacing trains between Torcy and Provins. No tour here, go by train.

Disneyland Paris is about 40 minutes from Châtelet on RER A, and Marne-la-Vallée Chessy station is a 2-minute walk from the park gates, again on the €2.55 ticket. No tour pin covers it, go by train, and the Paris to Disneyland train page walks through it.

Reims and Épernay

Reims sits 45 minutes from Paris by TGV, arriving at Reims-Centre or the Champagne-Ardenne TGV station in Bezannes, which connects by tram. The cathedral is free and the tower tour costs €9. The Palais du Tau is closed for renovation with reopening planned for 2027. Épernay is 1 hour 29 minutes from Paris Est on the TER, with up to 8 daily round trips, and its Avenue de Champagne carries the big houses.

One tour covers both pins: the Champagne day trip with six tastings at $263.75, an 11-hour minivan day for up to 8 that includes Reims Cathedral, a Champagne house, a family winery and Hautvillers Abbey. Lunch is not included. For the do-it-yourself route, Moët & Chandon in Épernay charges €48 for its 1 hour 30 minute Imperial Moment tour and Mercier starts at €25.

South of Paris: Fontainebleau, the Loire and Chablis

Trains south leave from Gare de Lyon and Austerlitz. This arc holds two châteaux close to Paris, the Loire castles much further out, and Burgundy wine country to the southeast.

Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte

Fontainebleau is the practical south pin. Trains leave Gare de Lyon for Fontainebleau-Avon from 06:19 to 00:49 daily, then a bus from the station to the château stop finishes the trip. The château ticket costs €17, the park and gardens are free every day, and the château is closed Tuesdays. The château needs about 2 hours for a self-guided visit.

Vaux-le-Vicomte is the château that inspired Versailles. Line R from Gare de Lyon reaches Melun in about 25 minutes, then the estate shuttle from Avenue Gallieni, booked ahead, or a taxi of about €18 to €20. Day tickets from mid-March to the start of November cost €18. One tour covers both pins: the Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte small-group day at $252.28, a 10-hour minivan trip for up to 8 with skip-the-line entry at both châteaux. Food is not included.

The Loire Castles

The Loire pins sit deep on the map, so a day trip means a long day. Chambord is 80 minutes from Paris by train plus the Rémi line 2 shuttle from Blois station, which costs €3.40 single and takes about 25 to 40 minutes. Entry costs €21 for EEA residents and €31 for other visitors, and a same-day train ticket cuts the €21 to €18.50. Chenonceau, the château built across the Cher, costs €19 with a guide leaflet and is open every day of the year. Amboise is about 1.5 hours away with the château a 10-minute walk from the station, tickets €17.30. Blois is the railhead at about 1 hour 24 minutes from Austerlitz, château entry €16.

Two tours sweep the Loire: the castles day trip with wine tasting at $123 covers Chambord and Chenonceau with skip-the-line entry and a tasting, lunch not included, and the wine and castles small-group tour at $280.95 adds Amboise for a group of 8 at most.

Chablis

Chablis is the southeast wine pin. The appellation village in the Yonne makes white wine only, from Chardonnay on Kimmeridgian limestone, and Grand Cru covers 99 hectares in seven climats. There is no simple rail day trip on the map, so the stop is reached by minivan on the tour here.

One tour covers it: the Burgundy wine tasting day in Chablis at $269.50, a 12-hour minivan day for up to 8 with visits and tastings at three wineries and more than ten wines. Lunch is not included and the minimum age is 7. For other wine regions by coach, the wine tours from Paris page lists them side by side.

Further Out: Mont-Saint-Michel, the Somme and Bruges

The outer ring of the map holds the longest days. Each of these is reachable by train in theory, but the tours exist because the connections eat hours.

Mont-Saint-Michel

The abbey island is the furthest French pin. By train, Montparnasse to Rennes takes about 2 hours by TGV, then a Keolis coach or a TER to Pontorson, 9 km from the Mont, then bus line 2 for about 27 minutes and the free Le Passeur shuttle or a 45-minute walk. The abbey costs €16 from spring to the end of September and €13 the rest of the year, with 139 steps on the main route.

Several tours cover it: the coach day trip with abbey entry at $100 and the guided coach version at $134.17 with an audio app. Both run 14 hours, lunch not included.

PlaceFrom ParisOn a tour
Mont-Saint-MichelMontparnasse to Rennes, about 2 h, then busSeveral tours, from $100
The SommeCoach only on the tourOne tour, $259
BrugesEurostar plus SNCB, about 2 h 45One tour, $96

The Somme Battlefields

The Somme First World War sites, from the Lochnagar crater to Beaumont-Hamel and the Thiepval memorial, sit north of the Somme river. Public transport across the scattered sites is thin, so the map marks this pin as coach or minivan only. One tour covers it: the WWI Somme battlefields day trip at $259, a 12-hour minivan day for up to 8 with entrance fees included, plus Amiens Cathedral.

A lunch stop at a local restaurant is an optional extra fee. It runs in all weather.

Bruges

Bruges is the only foreign pin on the map. Eurostar runs from Gare du Nord to Brussels-Midi in 1 hour 22 minutes and one booking covers the onward SNCB train, for a total of about 2 hours 45 minutes. Boarding at Gare du Nord closes 10 minutes before departure, and you carry a passport or national ID card.

The station is a 20-minute walk from the Markt, with De Lijn buses 1 and 2 outside. One tour covers it: the Bruges day trip from Paris at $96 by coach, where transport is the only fixed inclusion and the walking tour and canal cruise depend on the option you pick. Mainline and Eurostar fares are dynamic, so this page never quotes one.

Which Places Need a Tour

The map is only useful if it answers the booking question. This table gives an honest verdict per place: can the train alone do it, or does a tour earn its price. Figures come from the official sites cited on each destination page.

The Verdict, Place by Place

The pattern is simple. Anywhere inside Île-de-France on the €2.55 ticket rarely needs a tour, and anywhere with thin rural transport usually does. The grey zone is the Loire and Mont-Saint-Michel, where trains exist but eat so much of the day that many travellers pay for the coach.

Where the Map Saves You Money

Three pins cost almost nothing by train: Versailles and Disneyland at €2.55 a ride, and Provins the same. Chartres adds a cathedral that is free to enter from 8:30 to 19:30 all year, 1 hour from Montparnasse with 33 trains a day. Rouen and Bayeux sit on mainline lines from Saint-Lazare where fares are dynamic, meaning they change with demand rather than sitting at a fixed price.

The free day trips from Paris page prices these routes out in full.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the day trips from Paris map?

Pick a direction first, then check the pin for its transport line, travel time and season note. Each pin lists the tours that reach it with the exact price, and the quick answer above links the best day trips from Paris page for a ranked view.

What is the closest day trip to Paris on the map?

Chantilly is the quickest at 25 minutes from Gare du Nord, and Versailles is next at 30 to 35 minutes on RER C to Versailles Château Rive Gauche, with Saint-Germain-en-Laye at the end of RER A not far behind. The full route detail is on the Paris to Versailles by train page.

Which places on the map have no tour at all?

Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Chantilly, Provins, Chartres, Rouen, Bayeux, Honfleur, Étretat and Disneyland Paris have no bookable tour pin. All of them are covered by the DIY routes on the free day trips from Paris page.

How far is Mont-Saint-Michel from Paris on the map?

It is the furthest French pin. The TGV from Montparnasse to Rennes takes about 2 hours, then a coach or a TER to Pontorson and a bus to the Mont. The coach tours compress this into a 14-hour day, as shown on the Mont-Saint-Michel day trip page.

Can you reach another country on a day trip from Paris?

Yes, Bruges is on the map, about 2 hours 45 minutes from Gare du Nord with a Eurostar to Brussels-Midi and one SNCB connection on a single booking. A coach option from $96 exists on the Bruges day trip from Paris page.

Do any tours from Paris include lunch?

Two do. The Normandy D-Day tour at $131.88 includes a two-course Norman lunch with cider, and the Champagne tour at $372.69 includes a lunch paired with champagnes plus hotel pickup. The rest state plainly that food is extra, which the day tours from Paris comparison marks on every listing.

If the Normandy pin on the map is the one calling, the D-Day beaches day trip with lunch at $131.88 covers Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc and the American Cemetery in one 14-hour day.

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, lunch and museum entry included, hotel pickup not included.
